Legoland
Legoland is most certainly Montagu’s most popular beginner and family friendly crag. The walk-in only takes one minute from the parking area. There are over 20 routes at this crag of varying grades from 12 to 24, so there is something to climb for everyone.

The Steeple
A flat, fifteen minute walk takes you to this excellent crag. There is a huge grassy base which is great for taking children (even babies) and a nice picnic. There are 14 routes at the Steeple ranging from grade 7 to 21. The back side if the Steeple host one of Montagu harder test-pieces “The Shouting Stage” 29 and a four star 23 “The Church of Frederico”. This crag comes into the shade in the afternoon.

Bold & Beautiful
An excellent beginner crag easier routes due to the angle of the rock. The Bold and the Beautiful Crag is a great place to introduce beginners to rock climbing. Don’t let the 10 minute uphill walk put you off, once you’ve arrived you will be rewarded with excellent climbing and beautiful views. Almost every one of the routes at this crag are a ‘must do’.
There are 13 routes at the Bold and the Beautiful ranging from grade 14 to 23 and there is one double pitch route.

Playground
The Playground is found in Bad Kloof, and although not a very tall crag, it has some excellent beginner routes.

Ramset
A quick 15 minute walk in brings you to the Ramset crag (named after a drill manufacturer). This is another great crag for beginners and others wanting to push their grades into the 20’s. The angle of this crag allows you to keep your weight off your arms.

Forest
A little further up the kloof will you find Forest Crag, which true to the name has a small forest of trees below it providing welcome shade to belayers in the summer months.
